don't go there
"You're too nice to people," Cody told Bom when she got back from Ivy's. She'd dropped off some muffins and fruit. Ivy was on bedrest now and Brian hadn't left her side. For a false alarm, it was being taken seriously. Naturally, all Bom could think was what it would be like in a pregnant situation like that.
"What?" She woke up to his question. She'd been busy with some crochet that Cass dropped off before the last winter blast.
"I know you're doing all this for Cass." Cody was a matter a fact.
"It's not even Cass' family." She looked bewildered by Cody's notion that she was more than friends with her co-worker. "Brian? Brian is your friend." She wanted to turn this around, but he knew Cass still lived there. He hadn't moved out.
"Are you so sure they would even think of you?" It sounded like a put down to Bom. Her mouth closed before she could give him a fill of choice potty words about the matter. It wasn't often they had a tiff. But she was certain Cody was jealous.
"Why can't I help Cass?" She wanted to know. "He's a nice guy." She was determined to help him with this girl he'd met. She wanted to know if she was a compulsive liar. After all, Bom chatted her up when she came into the campus coffee shop. She'd even invited her to dinner. It was then she informed Cody they were having a dinner party and she needed his help. She would leave the vacuuming to him.
