a slight chance

Char was feeling numb. She had no idea what would be next. In two weeks she would not have a job and there was still a lot to do before the store was closed out. She knew she should have expected it, but she had time, didn't she?

Now, she and Diago were moving out of the apartment. Of course, it had never been much. They didn't have a lot. Except for a few mementos of her grandmother's. Supposedly, Diago had a plan.

Char wasn't too sure of it. Naturally, it would be a lot of work moving in to some abandoned house.

"It's not abandoned, quit saying that," Diago almost snapped while they were packing. "I got friends. They know people."

She knew he was trying to soothe her nerves, but all she could think of was that he'd joined a gang, perhaps. Her head hurt at the thought. Char knew she had to stay calm, but it didn't help her sleep nor to want to eat. She was exhausted.

There were bouts of wanting to call her mom, but it would do no good. They had to figure this out. They were on their own.

"Just how much?" She wanted to know. Would she be in debt for the rest of her life?

"It's gonna be fine." He kept saying, but there were no details in sight, and she would just have to wait until tomorrow came.
