"What happened?" Diago wanted to know. Sure, he wanted her to know about all the problems they'd found with the place, like the leaky water heater and the drain in the laundry room was clogged. But he could see she didn't want to hear those things. It was as if she'd gotten some bad news.

Her face was pale and she looked so out of it.

"It's..it's nothing." She went to put her stuff away. She looked as if she needed to lay down and rest a bit. He knew working at the bakery was a lot harder than either of them knew. But she was happy to be working.

"Are you sure?" He rubbed her shoulders.

The house was cold, even in late April, the temps dipped down close to freezing some nights. The days were getting warmer, yet it felt as winter was still hanging around.

"You must be coming down with something," he said as he put the back of his hand on her forehead. She pushed his away and slightly fretted. She let out a little sigh as is she would let him know everything. They never kept secrets from each other.

"I guess things are complicated with Sal and Micah." She looked away from him as if she'd said too much.

"But..but I thought they'd made up." Diago squinted as he reached for his Android in his back pocket.

"Don't." She told him to leave it alone. At least for now. "Nothing..nothing has happened."

Char plopped down on the old sofa that had been left behind. "I have to be there for Sally." She looked at the floor in thought. "There is something she has to do."

Char made it sound as if Sally's life would be put on hold until then. "I dunno if anything will change." Char shrugged.

Diago plopped down next to her and put his arm around her. "What do I need to do?" He wanted to help.

"You don't need to do a thing." She looked up at the bare ceiling. "Except, get this place fixed." She told him they'd all be sick if he didn't.

"We are." He promised. Sid was in the basement right now with his brother working on the water heater. They were waiting for their neighbor Cole to get here with the part they needed. "And then you can have a hot bath tonight." He smiled.

Char only let out a small sigh as if she couldn't completely believe him.
