in another world
Simon didn't know what to think when he came home to find his big brother Xander was cleaning his fridge. As it was the apartment was now spotless. Simon couldn't help but grimace.
"How did you even get in here?" Simon fretted.
"Remember, you gave me your key when you moved in," Xander apologized for not coming sooner. He had no idea they were both so messy.
Naturally, this made Simon all the more bitter. He could tell Candy was nervous. Suddenly, Simon felt his brother was trying to say they were just two young adults living in sin.
"You really shouldn't have." Simon hugged himself wanting to say he wanted his key back.
"Don't worry. I will never do it again." Xander practically smirked. "It's not my job, I have enough to do at home." But he reminded Simon he was an adult now, and one of the most important adulting skills was to make time for chores.
"You two should have some fun, cleaning house." Xander shrugged. "Or, are you two, too much alike?"
Simon looked at Candy. "We're just tired, you know, class after class."
"Aw, I guess you aren't really cooking at home, either," Xander noted all the take-out trash that they rarely ever got to the curb. "You two should cook together."
Simon rolled his eyes at that. Candy loved her ramen and stashed Baby Ruth bars in her undie drawer. Simon was thankful Xander hadn't stepped into their bedroom.
Xander mentioned Simon's longtime friend Ivy who'd had a baby. "Have you ever visited her?"
"Why? Why would I do that?" Simon winced hard, but Xander reminded him how he wanted to be a big part of her life at one time, but it was now an afterthought.
Sometimes, Simon didn't always like his big brother, but there was a certain truth he knew. His brother did more parenting with him than either of his parents.
