ghost of the past

Minnie thought she might be seeing things when she looked out her bedroom window in the early evening. Was that who she thought it was?

"What is it?" Josh peeked over her shoulder to see if he could see it.

"It's nothing," she went back to folding clothes, putting winter items away as spring neared. Still, the sight of the stranger gave her a slight fever.

"What is it?" Josh's tone let her know that she rarely ever told the truth.

She shook her head. "It just..couldn't be."

She knew that person wasn't here for her. He was over to see Jay, and that troubled Minnie.

It felt like a lifetime ago when she knew Lenny. Maybe all she was to him was a fangirl on the Rez.

She squinted. She'd hate for Josh to know that Lenny might have been her first love. Possibly, it was a onesided love. Never the less, he was the one she'd kissed when she was thirteen.

She hated the fact he was chain smoker, even back then and it didn't even bother her when his lips touched her. He might as well have devoured her youth.

But she was a grownup now and a mom. Still, it looked as if Lenny hadn't changed one little bit. He was as cool as he ever was.

Not that she wanted to see him. She didn't. She knew it couldn't be a good thing to see Lenny hanging out with Jay. Lenny was a little shady, but somehow he always stayed above the law, even on the Rez.

She definitely needed to let Ivy know about Lenny and what sort of rebel he was. She was certain he was a leader of a gang even if no one would admit it.

But she guessed it wouldn't be tonight. Of course, there was Josh smiling as if that was the sign they needed to be together as the night grew darker.
