not quite quartined
It felt like weeks of isolation for Lynsey. But there was always something to do at Casey's. They did a lot of reorganizing. He'd gotten gravel to even put under the deck out back. They'd done some gardening.
Of course, there was always something good to eat at Casey's. And then his brother Torry came with his roommate and he visited from his SUV in the driveway.
It was as if Casey wanted everyone to know just how he socially distanced in the neighborhood.
"But you haven't caught him talking to someone?" Chance wanted to know.
Lynsey shook her head, no. She didn't know what was up with Casey's invisible friend. Maybe it was all her fault, but it didn't seem to bother Casey much.
"And nothing romantic is going on?" Chance was curious.
Lynsey couldn't help but laugh at the question. "Of course not, I might as well be living with a monk."
Although, he was quite bossy and she did always follow his instructions. God knows, she didn't want to be out on the street with her parents not around.
She didn't want to feel trapped, but she missed her friends from the library.
"I hope he's not too upset with me," Lynsey shrugged at the thought that he might rather be alone.
"Oh, he likes you," Chance told her he could tell. "He talks about you all the time."
"Are you sure," she winced thinking Casey would find them any moment in the basement and tell her they weren't six feet apart. "Remember, you know who is Linsey too?"
"It's not that, he refers to you as 'she' or 'her'," Chance explained.
Lynsey nodded wondering how did she get into the mess, to begin with. It was too late to do anything. She couldn't say she was a hostage, but sometimes it frightened her that she might be with someone so mental.
She wouldn't dare say she liked Casey, but in her heart, she knew she did. Only, she would dare expect much from him.
