how did we get in this position

Linsey went numb when she got the call from Amira with the news of Alfie.

"What?" She looked around the kitchen that smelled of roasted chicken in the oven. Casey went all out for the dining table as if it might be a holiday instead of just Thursday.

"What? What did he say?" Linsey wanted to know about Alfie.

"Not much, just asked where you were," Amira said.

"What did you say?" She was trying to piece together the last time she saw him. She cringed. Break-up sex came to her mind.

"I told him you were in lockdown," Amira promised she didn't say anything else.

Linsey wanted to breathe a sigh of relief, but she knew she couldn't. He was the last person she ever thought she would see. She thought he went to Denmark or Sweden, perhaps. She definitely didn't want to see him.

Besides, he was the past. Just a one night stand. Perhaps it was more than one night, but it was over. Definitely, over. She did her best not to be too alarmed. She said goodbye to her friend and put her cell away.

"Who was that?" Casey asked.

"Oh, just Amira," Linsey forced a smiled and mentioned they should really get together with Amira and Ste. "Remember how much you liked her sandwiches?"

Casey nodded with a smile.

Linsey gritted a smile. She really didn't need any drama in her life. Most definitely, no one like Alfie.
