Thanksgiving is coming

Janine felt she'd somehow replaced Ivy. She hadn't meant too. But she knew she was closer to Ivy's mother than she was her own. She spent more time with Ivy's family and her brother was Ivy's ex. But it was home now. And she was with Shiloh, her baby's father. They both worked and took classes at the university and lived with Ivy's mom. Janine felt full of guilt, but Ivy's mom kept telling her they'd gotten her away from Jay. Of course, Ivy didn't see Jay as the enemy.

Once upon a time, Janine was with Jay and he told everyone he was her husband. He even had her believing it. After all, she was a teenage runaway aka high school dropout. She'd even named her baby after Jay's mother.

Sure he could be so cool but he could be just as mean, too. It was as if he knew all along she wanted to run away from him. It was a suffocating life and she was glad it was over. It was good to have a mundane life now.

Of course, Ivy's mom was still keeping close tabs on Jay. They knew Jay was COVID free and out of jail now. Unfortunately, Janine wasn't so sure how to exactly tell this to Ivy, but she needed to know.

When Janine got a hold of Ivy on Facetime, they talked about how baby Naddy was growing. What classes Shiloh was taking. Even spoke of Thanksgiving.

"I won't go anywhere," Ivy told her. It was as if she was under house-arrest these days with the spike in COVID cases.

"I know, I'm practically in the same boat, but I do miss you. I have been thinking about you," Janine said. "Have you heard anything from Jay?"

"No," Ivy looked at her blankly. "Do you know something?"

A shiver ran through Janine as she pressed her lips tight, trying to find the right words to say. She hadn't thought of him in a long time. She didn't want to think about him. Honestly, she didn't understand how Ivy would be with him.

"We found out he's out of prison," Janine spoke calmly.

Ivy shook her head, no. She was certain Jay would have let her know. She winced hard. Janine could see the pain on her face.

Janine hated being the bearer of bad news, but somebody had to tell her about Jay.
