You were always on my mind

Slater felt as if he was frozen in time. A part of him wanted to reminisce about Minnie and not think of the state of things. He couldn't mention to anyone about his failure with his own marriage. And he needed to think of that as the past too. If only they'd had kids, Jess might be with him. She wanted him to find someone he could have kids with. As much as he'd begged and argued with her that that was not the point of their marriage, she never saw it that way.

It would hurt having to talk to Josh (his long-time best friend and also Minnie's husband) about it, but if it meant for Josh to be COVID free, then he would do it.

Yes, the winter blues were sinking in. February felt like a long cold month. He wasn't sure March would be any better. But there were little signs of hope. Josh wasn't in a coma anymore. Still, it was a long way from seeing him. At least he was out of the ICU and maybe soon he would be home with an oxygen tank.

Things were looking up, Slater would have to find his own place soon even if Minnie kept insisting he could stay as long as he liked. He supposed they might need him around. Yet, he'd felt needy. He'd taken up far too much time of Minnie's day even if he worked a good portion of the afternoons and nights at the grocery store. He at least had to try to meet someone.

Of course, someone suggested at work that he should get on a dating app, but he would have nothing of it. He really didn't want to meet his boss' niece, either. Yet suddenly he felt as if he was thrown into the lion's den.

She worked in the office at the grocery store. As soon as he met Misty, he knew she was not his type. After all, she was not a thing like Jess who was a whole lot of woman to love with curves and a certain sexiness that couldn't be achieved in layers.

He found Misty kind of angry, too. She always kept looking at him as if she wanted him to get to the point of whatever he was trying to tell her. Not even Minnie could help him with this.

If only he could get Jess back, but the last he heard she'd met someone who already had kids and she liked being a step-mom.

  1. Good news about Josh - out of the ICU!
Well, Slater should know this very important fact of life :having kids is for most women the point of marriage.

    1. For the most part. Although, many friends I have these days aren't having children anytime soon. But in Slater and Jess' case, she is the one who can't have kids. And I think he would adopt kids, but her attitude is that she is holding him back because the time she was pregnant with his child in high school she chose to get an abortion(or she had a miscarriage before she could get the abortion..It's been a long time since I wrote that story. I think I wrote this story since I live not all that far from the Abortion clinic in our town.

  4. This is messy stuff. I hope that Slater finds what he's looking for. It's refreshing that he wants someone who's "a whole lot of woman" and that he has standards in terms of personality. The detail about Josh in ICU due to COVID is chilling, a real reminder of what the world's going through. But it's encouraging that he's out of the coma. Here's hoping that he and all the real sufferers out there recover!
