"No way!" Poppy looked at Alfie wide-eyed as he told her about his conversation with Vicki.
"Way," he smirked and took a bite of the English muffin with the fresh strawberry jam they'd made.
"I dunno..who would have thunk it? Steve and..and what's her name?" Poppy winced, thinking she might be too enthusiastic about this because she really didn't want to bring up what she saw. Jory was with some girl. In their building. They weren't on the same floor anymore, but she'd seen them in the parking lot.
"Precisely," Alfie nodded then he sighed. "I hope Steve won't...won't hurt V."
"What?" Poppy was lost in the conversation. Who was V?
"Victoria." He sounded as if that was freaking weird to even say the name. "I mean, I have always known her as Vicki but he calls her Victoria." He shrugged.
"Oh." Poppy took a sip of coffee, trying not to see in her mind how clingy that chick was with Jory. Poppy winced. She knew Jory liked it. She could tell. She gritted a smile thinking she was never that way with Jory. She looked at Alfie wondering if she should try to be ... She practically choked on her coffee.
"Are you OK?" Naturally, Alfie's big eyes looked at her as he got up to be sure.
She cleared her throat once more and nodded.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you," Alfie squinted then. "I saw Jory the other day and..and he was with someone."
"I know," Poppy could barely say.
"They looked happy."
She nodded, straight-lipped.
"Well, aren't you glad he found someone?" Alfie looked at her with concern.
"Of course." Still, she felt she'd let Jory down, somehow. But she wasn't the giddy type. Oh, maybe she was when she was alone in her own bedroom fangirling over him. But to actually be with him, she was rather timid. As if he's always made her a little nervous.
"Look, we should ask Steve and Victoria over," Alfie was back to Steve.
"I'd like that." She told him they needed more couple friends to do things with.
"Oh, there's Dan and Ivy, you know," Alfie mentioned with a nod as he was finishing up his scrambled eggs.
Poppy nodded with a smile. Although, she really wasn't ready for friends with kids yet.
I know from my own experience that a lot changes when it comes to the relationship if you have children.
ReplyDeleteFriends with kids is another life stage.
ReplyDeleteHello!! I have friends with kids and everything changes a lot. Great chapter, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!
It must be weird. I have a few friends who've got kids now. I don't know, I've just started pretending like I don't know them (that's not very nice, to be honest).
ReplyDeleteI have a friends with kids, it's difficult!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your new chapter
Kisses ♥
A very good chapter, dear.
ReplyDeletePoppy needs time! I dont think that friends with kids make Poppy happy.
ReplyDeleteKids are a life changer.
ReplyDeleteLove ❤️
ReplyDeleteYes, when people have kids their priorities change. I can understand how that can change a friendship. However, I don't get that thing of not being ready to have friends with kids. It's not like one's expected to adopt them one's self.
ReplyDeleteParece que a Popy ve como cambia su vida. Genial fragmento te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteNice post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll visit my blog soon. Have a nice day!
I loved the chapter. And I understand Poppy's hesitation, I hope she'll warm up to the idea later.

I think a great phase of life with kids
ReplyDeleteIt is always interesting to see what people will pick up on when they read one of these post. Although, I really wasn't trying to dwell on the subject of people with kids. Actually, more of Poppy's self conscious. Wondering why she was the way she was with her ex boyfriend Jory as well as being thrown off guard when her boyfriend mentioned his friend Dan. Honestly, I feel certain it really wouldn't be a big deal with Alfie and his friends having kids. And maybe it won't be that big of deal with Poppy either, because friends are going to find different journeys in life. It's best to embrace them even if you might be a bit guarded about it, in the beginning.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is best to embrace them.
DeleteMe encanta cómo escribes, es una historia muy bonita

Amigos são sempre importantes na vida, tenham crianças ou não.
ReplyDelete😘🌼
friends are always important in life, have children or not.
DeleteFriends with kids bring happiness, kids are cute :)
ReplyDeleteHoping Poppy will welcome and make friend with the little one :)
What is it about seeing your ex with someone else that makes you rethink the way you were with them? I totally get it, but I hope that Poppy can give herself a break. Every relationship is different, and it's pointless to judge ourselves based on them once they're over. Great job capturing that uneasy feeling. You really are a connoisseur of the human condition!
