Slater just about had a heart-attack when he read Misty's text. "I need you. RIGHT NOW."
Of course, he let off the F bomb in an instance and Jay looked at him as if he wasn't supposed to say words like that. After all, Slater was the one who told him to stop cursing, especially if Hope was here. They didn't want her talking like that.
"What is it?" Jay wanted to know. He'd cleared the snacks and toys away.
"Probably nothing," Slater told him there was a roast in the freezer, he could put it in the crockpot for tomorrow's dinner with Vanna.
Honestly, Slater hated to see where this might lead. After all, he thought Vanna was off to college, but there had been a last-minute change. She was just going to Metro now. Just what he needed, overseeing another date for someone else.
But he went off to Menards. He found Misty in the paint section. It was kind of funny watching her study all the colors.
"Are you sure they'll even let you paint in our apartments?" He winced as if it was a bad idea.
"We can always paint over it," She looked at him as if he better get on board with this.
"We?" He didn't know if he liked the sound of that.
"It's over." Misty's frown was small but still bitter. "I told Bishop, everything."
"Everything?" He gave her that HOW COULD YOU look, but she didn't budge.
"It's better that.. it's over. I might be mental anyway." She crossed her arms. She looked away from him as if she did not need him, after all.
Slater gave her a nod, although, he did feel sad for her.
"I can't decide on CHERRY TOUPE or ARIZONA DUST." She shrugged.
"Neither, go with something peaceful like GARDEN FLOWER." He lifted the paint swatch.
"We should do more together." She took the swatch.
"Oh, like help you paint?" He looked at her as if it might be code for something else. Possibly.
She nodded.
"You'll have me building a house for you before all this is over," he said as they went to get the paint. Naturally, she got her Cherry Toupe while he picked up the Garden Flower.
"That's the plan." She finally smiled and told him she'd buy him something on the 2 for Twenty-seven at Applebee's.
Great storie!

Misty and Slater, sitting in a tree! Could a crazy one-night stand turn domestic? They'd better paint that apartment and find out! I like this chapter. It's hopeful. Kind of like Cherry Taupe and Garden Flower. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny that you thought of my post passing the pumpkin patch at the Pirate Festival! (Try saying that five times fast.) My anchor necklace is honored, ha ha!
Painting together is a good start.
