Finding a warm heart for February

 Sunny was still unsure if this was really happening. Finally living with Lizzy. Oh, he'd thought about it day and night for weeks while he slept on a friend's couch near the University. He'd stayed a few days at home too. But nothing changed the fact that he wanted to be with her. And now it was so. They'd been together for almost a month now.  Still, he'd catch her daydreaming as if maybe he wasn't enough.

"Well, I'm working with Simon now, and he's found me plenty of connections and..and ..." He still didn't have a fabulous paycheck, but it would come someday. Maybe. True, he and Lizzy were close to the same age. She was a year or so older. It gave him a big sigh now as if she was way older than him. Perhaps, it was because she'd worked harder, been through more than he had.

She didn't say much to the conversation, but she let a smile slip as if it was all OK. 

Funny, how he'd worried so long ago with Rosie, thinking how hard it would be to have a future with her. He was a good four years older than her and still he felt in all this time he hadn't quite matured. And it hadn't really seemed to matter to Rosie in the end. She seemed to be content with a guy who worked at the library..with no wedding even insight, or so he'd heard. 

Did he still have feelings for her that he didn't know about?

He really didn't think so. He'd grown up. He'd been through enough with studies and jobs that never really paid off. Still, these days were so messy with inflation, job rates, and of course a mask to wear every time you left the door. 

It felt he'd finally made it to the top of the mountain just to see there was a whole new mountain range that was even higher. 

"Don't worry so much," she'd said and of course, she'd wrapped her arms around him as if she did believe in him. It was going to be all right. She was where she wanted to be. 

"It's like a do-over for both of us," Lizzy said. "We've been through a lot."

Still, when she kissed him, he knew there was only one thing on her mind. It was true they did enjoy each other's company and that alone was the perfect foundation. Wasn't it?
