The end of a new beginning

Yuki could barely lift her head as she lay in the hospital bed. Yes, her shoulder was in such pain, but her arm was broken too. Really, she hadn't anticipated the worst. Of course, she wanted to blame Declan for a lot of what happened.

If he hadn't insisted that she get a new bank account and transfer her paycheck to it maybe Remi wouldn't have gotten so angry. But she doubted that was the truth now.

She didn't have the energy to think about it. At least it was over. Remi was in jail. She hadn't made bail.

"I didn't want this to happen," she blurted to anyone who would listen. After all, she had Brandon and Declan there like a family she'd never had and Emily was already crying.

Yuki wished she wasn't here. Yuki didn't want her to see this. It was supposed to be a better world where everyone just worked for a living and didn't expose what went on at home.

"I'm really sorry I got all of you involved in this," Yuki's grim face said it all.

"Don't say that," Brandon looked sad too. "It'll take some time. It'll get better." He made it sound as if it were a medication that would do the trick, but there were consequences with it.

Yuki sighed with a nod. She nursed her bottom lip as they discussed where her home would be. Emily said there was room for her at her grandmother's.

"I have her room already," she smiled. "I even got new bedding. It's in your favorite color."

Yuki sniffed back tears. Emily knew her favorite color was Sage. It didn't seem possible she would know, but then again no one had ever asked Yuki before.

"The doctor thinks you need to take it easy this week," Declan said.

"What if I lose my job?" She shook her head, no. She loved that job. She needed that job.

"It's OK, we told them you got hurt, but you should be OK," Brandon reminded her to take all her medications. "And you need to eat," Brandon said he was sending food home with Emily. It was Yuki's favorites, the Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, and of course a big strawberry salad.

She nodded. Unsure if she was ready for this new beginning. Especially, so suddenly. Of course, it was troubling, just what was going through Remi's mind. Was she really going to be OK? Yuki hated to think this was all her fault. She didn't think Remi had ever been incarcerated. Really, she'd always been there for Remi. She'd only wanted the best for her, and now it felt as if it meant nothing to Remi.

  2. I hope she doesn't blame herself for what Remi did since we know that happens a lot.

  6. This is so sad, but I'm glad that Yuki is (physically) okay. Emily getting her bedding in her favorite color is so touching, especially when we find out that no one has ever asked Yuki about her favorite color before. I hope that in time she can work through her (misplaced) guilt about Remi. It sounds like jail is where Remi belongs.
