"When do you think it will happen?"
"Ma?" Boone wanted to drown out any more questions from his mother Janine who he was on the phone with. Didn't she know he was dead tired and in dire need of rest? After all, he was getting moody lately and felt he was taking it all out of Lily and he knew she didn't deserve that.
"Why do you want to know about Phil moving in with Lexi? Huh?" He scowled, then yawned.
"Where is he now? Is he at home?" She asked as if Boone needed to spy on him.
"He's with Lexi," Boone fell back on the couch. When was he not with Lexi? He closed his eyes. He didn't want to think about a new roommate.
"Well, Dory needs a place, like now." She assured him that this guy had a job.
"Do you know him?" Boone set up.
"Just on paper," she wouldn't tell him anymore than that. He knew that voice of hers. It meant they needed to help him. "He's got a job." She insisted.
"OK, I'll let Phil know," he sighed. He squinted thinking they were supposed to have a marathon of Mario Brothers at least one last time. Honestly, Boone wanted to sleep and he was certain if they talked much longer he was going to fall asleep on this phone call. Finally, she let him go and he laid back on the couch in thought.
It was going to be awful having a new roommate. If only he could just get Lily to move in. But that was not going to happen. Really, he thought he was overdoing it with work and now classes which were online, but still that meant reading and assignments.
Finally, Phil arrived. It was as if he was sneaking in for something. Boone set up.
"Why aren't you moved in already, at Lexi's?" Boone knew he needed to say this already.
Phil looked at him a little lost. He sucked in a breath. It was as if he didn't have any sure answers.
"I can't tell my parents." Phil shrugged.
"So that's what this is about," Boone stared at him as if that was so silly. "It'll be fine."
"I don't want to," he frowned as if he was under too much pressure as it was.
Boone assured him that his mom was willing to pay for the bed in his room and any other furniture he wanted to leave behind. Of course, most of it was RENT TO OWN.
Phil nodded. Of course, he looked as if he might be getting ready for a voyage on the other end of the world.
"Well, it's not like they come to visit," Boone felt a hunger pain surge through him then. He winced hard wondering if there was any peanutbutter and bread. "They can't expect you to be a priest or something."
Phil fumed a bit. Boone got up to get himself a sandwich.
"Look, I know I've got a lot to work on, myself." He mentioned some of the things he'd said to Lily lately. "What's the matter with me?" Why was he so angry lately? Was it work? Was it the idea that everything was changing once again? "I know you're nervous, but it hasn't stopped Lexi, now has it?"
Phil wouldn't say, but he knew Phil wanted to be with Lexi too. Boone made himself a sandwich with the leftover strawberry jam. He made one for Phil too as if it might be their last meal together.
"Just do it, will you?" Boone knew it had to be this way. His mom kept insisting that Dory needed a room. "We can still do stuff together." Of course, he didn't know when. Lexi did know how to monopolize Phil's time.
Phil nodded.
Boone wished he could say he was growing up, but he knew he still needed to figure out how to be a better person. He wanted to be his best, especially around Lily.
Life is not always what we imagine it to be.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a nice weekend.
Life is filled with ups and downs. Have a wonderful weekend, Ellie.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Boone wants to do better by Lily. He sounds like he's under a ton of stress. A new roommate, pressure to help Phil... life;s tough now these days too. I enjoyed seeing this side after reading Lexi yesterday...
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is a good one.

The first step towards personal growth is not organizing the closet, nor cleaning the house, but rather putting our internal drawers in place.

I feel for Phil. I was scared to tell my parents I was moving in with the husband (before we were married) too. I'm glad that Boone gave him such good advice. Also, that he knows he has to do better by Lily. Finally, Boone and Dory as roommates is interesting! π―ππ―ππ―π
