They both got COVID.
Riley should have known it would come to this. They barely got out of there where Zelli lived in the neck to time. They stayed in hotel in Denver. It was all so much lonelier than either expected. Maybe they weren't the greatest travelers after all.
"We're never coming back," Melissa said then and even now when she wasn't blowing her nose. She stayed on her corner of the couch and Riley stayed on the other. They drank mint tea even if their chests still hurt.
"Do you really think Zelli is OK?" Riley found herself coming back to the question.
Zelli was into threesomes now.
"I didn't even know it was a trend," Melissa sighed with a cough. Her eyes were so watery.
"We're just two librarians from Iowa." Riley couldn't say another thing. Maybe they were boring but she certainly wasn't going to hook up with a stranger or two.
Melissa shook with a chill. She wrapped the blanket closer to her. The Gilmore Girls were on, but it might as well have been the background noise of the news.
"Oh, I feel so awful," She coughed about. Riley watched sipping her tea. She was practically in a sweat in her flannels. She was certain Melissa might take a turn for the worst. What if she needed to be at the hospital?
"I don't know what to think about her anymore," Riley was sad. She felt they'd lost Zelli for good this time.
"You were almost ready to stay," Melissa coughed up.
"No, I wasn't," Riley shook her head, no.
"You made it all sound so cool. You would have gone along with all of it if it wasn't for me." She practically beat her chest then.
"You are hallucinating. I would never." Riley was straight-lipped. She got up to make more tea. She wasn't sure how to comfort Melissa.
About then her cell lit up. It was Yuki. Of course, Yuki didn't ask how they were nor what they were doing. She told her that Brandon and Declan were back. They were raising his sister's baby now.
"What?" The words shocked Riley's system. She thought she might be sicker than she ever imagined. "How come you guys didn't tell me sooner?" She melted into tears. She couldn't believe this was happening.
Thanks a lot =) Happy November too

Covid is making a comeback. We haven't got it yet and hopefully it will stay that way.
ReplyDeleteOh NO! And poor Riley- so much happening so fast.
ReplyDeleteI'm sick right now- sore throat- but hopefully not Covid. Probably caught something at the comic con last weekend...
Uy pobrecita. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteOh no. Not that dreaded disease!
ReplyDeleteTwo librarians from Iowa (Riley and Melissa) with...Covid. Sad! Hopefully they get better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor Riley and Melissa! That's awful that they have COVID and that Zelli isn't who they thought she was. But I am relieved that they escaped the cult. Also, I'm glad that Yuki called them with the news of Declan and Brandon's new addition. It reminds them of all the good things waiting at home. 😀😀😀
ReplyDeleteFunny, how the Thriller- Spare Room inspired this storyline. It centers around COVID too. & Threesomes. I just wanted to hit on that topic too. I dunno, according to that author its very common these days. However, I don't know of anyone that would do it..especially, during a pandemic. Although, Zelli might be going through a certain transition in her life..or not..I like to leave some things a mystery.
