Here we are, me and you

 It was a great way to start the new year, and Alfie knew he had so much to be thankful for. 

"But, I gotta say, I'm glad it's over," he put his arm around Zoey. The last week felt so fast and he wasn't sure any of it would happen. The wedding.

Sure, they'd had Christmas with the family. Alfie felt Janine extended to a new realm. There was Oakley as her husband and Dory along with Cedric. He was happy that Boone was still with Lily; hopefully, they were on the same page or in the same novel. 

The wedding was quaint, and he knew Janine was now at the helm in all family matters. As long as they had Janine there would always be a party and they would be a family.

"Now when will your Dad marry Janine?" That was the last question Alfie thought Zoey would ask. After all, their honeymoon was a trip to Kansas City for the weekend. 

"Don't even ask," Alfie shrugged wondering if he could take any more shopping. After all, they'd gotten lost in IKEA for the day. "Best to leave well enough alone." Honestly, he'd never seen his dad so happy. Of course, his dad never said much, but he knew his dad was content. Yes, Janine was the glue that kept them together. 

That's when Zoey mentioned Lexi wanted to tell her something about Phil. 

"I think I should leave that alone too," She put her arm around him as if ready for the drive home. It was cold but good weather and they wanted plenty of time to prepare for the new year. 

"Hmm, I hope he's all right," Alfie talked of Phil as if he was just another brother instead of Boone's best friend.

"I think so," she didn't seem to think it had anything to do with bad health.

"We'll catch up with those two soon enough," He told her.

"But what if..if it's only something she wants to tell me?" She sounded as if she didn't know what to do.

"Then you'll tell me what it is." Alfie told her. "That's what married couples do. We don't keep secrets."

She laughed at him then. "I didn't think you were that old-fashioned?"

"Well, of course, I am," Alfie looked at her blankly. He wanted her to know he wanted to get the right start of the year.

"You know, I'm always honest with you," Zoey promised.

"I know," he kissed her forehead then. "And I will always be honest with you, too."
