I was the one waiting and it's worse to be strung along

"I just want us all to be happy, you know."

Stan hoped Chili didn't mind if he told her this about Amy and Jen. He was drinking coffee at the counter on a lazy Saturday morning after the Brunch rush. Pancakes were still being made and someone was having a veggie omelet being prepared on the grill. He just didn't know it would be his. Chili brought it over to him with a blueberry muffin on the side.

"You've had too much caffeine," she told him. "Eat this. I can hear your stomach grumbling from here."

He didn't know if he should cry or laugh. How could he tell this to anyone? He knew he shouldn't. Oh, he wouldn't. He forked off a piece of the egg, cheese, and veg and put it in his mouth before he could say anything.

"What's really the matter?" Chili wanted to know.

"Um," he shook his head like he wouldn't say. If he didn't say it, maybe it wasn't true. "Well," he cracked.

"What?" Chili gave him a serious look.

"Something happened with me and Jen." He was closed-lipped. He'd said enough. He sipped the warm creamed coffee. Of course, he went on to say it had happened after the Italian dinner at Boone's, thanks to Cedric. "She was..um, I didn't think she was that drunk. I-"

"Oh, it was a drunk night was it?" she almost laughed at him with her sheepish grin.

Stan squinted hard. "I don't know what to think." He put down his cup. Suddenly, he'd lost his appetite, yet bit in the glorious blueberry muffin sparkled in sugar to keep from talking, but of course, he had to let someone know, "We've been sleeping together ever since."

Chili went to pack a variety of muffins for him. "You need to go home. She might be thinking you're sneaking around. You have two girls at home. I bet they're hungry."

Stan nodded.

"It's gonna be OK. I think Jen is where she wants to be." Chili told him.
